As we expand our Research and Development capabilities, we invite interns to come in and get trained alongside Certified Flavor Chemists, Beverage Scientists, Food Scientists, and Food Engineers!
Internship Description:
During your residency at BFI, you will learn how to make compound flavors, run scientific experiments, learn about food process engineering, and expand your knowledge of the food industry. This is a paid position at a competitive rate of $15/hr. The program will also require an independent research project that will be presented to the Research & Development team upon completion. Daily duties will include:
- Assist Applications Technologist with screening flavors, picking up tasks and helping the team reach deadlines and provide the highest quality products and services to our customers
- Compound, batch, scale, and create experimental flavor and beverage formulas
- Help with batching, packing, shipping, and handling of customer samples
- Transfer materials and set up equipment according to SOP (standard operating procedures)
- Run specifications with precision: pH, Density, Brix, Specific Gravity, Moisture
- Support basic lab functions including washing glassware, preparing flavor samples, setting up equipment, clean and maintain lab working and batching spaces, and routine intermediate Sensory testing
- Maintain Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
Qualifications:
We are currently looking for candidates who are:
Education:
- sophomore, junior, or senior (sophomore or junior preferred) enrolled in a Bachelors of Science program at a 4-year college or university
- Food Science major preferred but would also consider students majoring in a related science with an interest in the Food & Beverage industry, such as Human Nutrition/Nutritional Sciences, etc.
- Relevant Coursework: general chemistry, organic chemistry, food technology, food processing, food manufacturing, nutritional sciences
Experience: previous internship, laboratory, and or customer service experience preferred
Skills
- demonstrates effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
- competency in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- excellent organizational skills
- proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and SharePoint
Misc
- Must receive a passing score on the BFI quiz
- Must provide their own housing and transportation
- Full-time preferred but can also consider part-time
