Job Title: Material Handler 

Department: Production 

Reports To: Production Manager 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 


Position Summary

This position picks and delivers raw material within the plant for delivery to the production floor ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all job functions and ensures that all materials are placed back into correct locations. Responsible for the inventory of all raw and packaging materials and the accountability for any inventory discrepancies. Maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment. 

 Job Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure timely and accurate picking and delivery of raw materials and packaging to the production area for compounding, mixing, and pack out. 
  • Manage all raw and packaging inventories with a focus on quantity accuracy, lot accuracy, location, and the update of locations 
  • Ensure that all materials are put back into the proper locations and must understand the requirements of the storage of flammable materials 
  • Accountability for raw and packaging inventory discrepancies. Provide information and answers to resolution or inventory discrepancies. 
  • Handle R&D sample requests for materials and/or packaging. 
  • Ensure that all processes and policies are followed, and that all documentation is filled out completely and correctly. 
  • Conduct cycle counts as requested.

Location and travel: Position will be based in Addison, IL, with infrequent travel to the Branchburg, NJ and other locations as needed. 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily; the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  

  • 3+ years of relevant material handling/inventory control preferred 
  • An instinctive ability to identify root causes of inventory discrepancies 
  • Must understand the importance of lot traceability 
  • A team player with strong communication skills 
  • Strong problem-solving skills 
  • The ability to roll up the sleeves with a “can do” attitude 
  • Must be able to organize and plan ahead 
  • Must be adaptable to change and have a willingness to learn new things 
  • Comfortable using a computer on a semi-regular basis 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to routinely lift and carry up to 55 lbs continuously throughout the workday. 
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk throughout the workday. 
  • Ability to use a computer during the workday. 
  • Ability to handle heavy materials, including drums required. 
  • Ability to stand throughout the total hours of the working shift. 
  • Ability to walk through out the total hours of the working shift.  Fine finger dexterity. 
  • Ability to work with allergens (tree nuts, peanut, dairy, etc) 

Work Environment 

  • Work performed in a manufacturing environment 
  • Regularly exposed to odors, fumes, noise and allergens (tree nuts, peanuts, dairy, etc) 

Personal Protective Equipment 

  • Safety Glasses are required while performing specific tasks 
  • Nonslip steel toed shoes are required on the Production Floor 
  • Hairnets and facial hair nets are required to be worn on the Production Floor 
  • Lab coats, uniforms or coveralls are mandatory on the Production Floor
