BFI is headquartered in Addison, IL with another facility in Branchburg, NJ. Position Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the dissemination of innovative flavor solutions by preparing, organizing, and managing flavor samples. This position requires a strong understanding of flavor profiles and a passion for food science, as well as collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and consistency in flavor compounding. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate excellent organizational skills, and have a commitment to quality and excellence in all aspects of work.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepare flavor samples according to specific guidelines and formulas, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Maintain an organized inventory of raw materials and library flavor samples, tracking usage and restocking supplies as needed.
- Accurately document sample preparation processes, results, and any adjustments made during preparation to maintain a comprehensive record.
- Work closely with R&D scientists, flavorists, and cross-functional teams to support ongoing projects and initiatives, providing samples for testing and formulation.
- Conduct sensory evaluation and quality checks on flavor samples to ensure they meet company standards and specifications.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and tools used for sample preparation, ensuring they are cleaned and calibrated as necessary.
- Adhere to safety and regulatory guidelines in the laboratory environment, ensuring a safe workspace for all team members.
- Provide support in new product development projects by assisting in testing and evaluating flavor formulations as needed.
- Effectively prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Work on scale up projects for flavor manufacture.
- Sample data entry in Sage X3 and Product Vision.
- Uphold and demonstrate stated BFI values with respect to all job responsibilities.
- Reports any food safety problems to personnel with the authority to initiate actions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of flavor chemistry and sensory evaluation principles.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise protocols.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency with Office suites, as well as ability & willingness to learn new software applications.
- Strong and effective communication, organizational & interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and as a team, in a fast-paced setting.
Preferred Experience:
- Internship or coursework related to flavor technology or food product development.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and analytical techniques.
- Passion for food and flavor innovation.
Technical:
- Good working knowledge of Excel, Word, Access, and a comfort level with learning new systems
- Comfortable with the use of web-based systems
- Preferred experience in Flavor formula entry in Sage X3 and Product Vision is highly desirable
- Basic knowledge of flavor formulation techniques and applications.
- Experience with sensory evaluation methods and statistical analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data management and reporting.

- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, occasionally bend and move around the facility. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to work with allergens (dairy & food colorings)
- Work performed in an office environment with ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment
- Daily trips out to the Production Department where exposed to a manufacturing environment with exposure to odors, fumes, noise and allergens (dairy & food colorings)
- Non-slip steel toed shoes are required on the Production Floor
- Hairnets and facial hair nets are required to be worn on the Production Floor
- Lab coats, uniforms or coveralls are mandatory on the Production Floor
